Comparisons

I guess that the last one didnt post... so here's two to make up for lost times.

Futura and Franklin Gothic

Both are san serifs. Franklin Gothic is bolder. There is also a variation of modulation in Franklin Gothic as well. Futura has roundish characteristics while Franklin Gothic is more boxy. Futura's lower case g doesn't have an ear unlike Franklin Gothic's lower case g. The tails in the upper case Q's on both Franklin Gothic and Futura are different in that Franklin Gothic's Q's tail extends from the outer edge while the Q in Futura goes all the way through the stroke.

Fraktur and Snell

Fraktur is a black letter that needs to be shot and killed and never used. Snell is a script. Both have ornaments. The set width of Fraktur is bigger than that of Snell. Snell has a consistent modulation. Fraktur has a variety in modulation with the ornaments and connecting parts of the letter. The cap height of Snell is greater than that of Fraktur.

I choose you clarendon?

Today's topic of comparison is Clarendon and Cheltenham [I shall refer to the last one as Chelt].

Clarendon is like a box. The set width and cap height are more square than that of Chelt. Both are serifs. Clarendon is a slab serif. The ears of the g's on both Clarendon and Chelt have balls. Chelt's ear on the g is perkier than that of Clarendon's... it looks sad. Clarendon is a lot bolder than that of Chelt. There is more visible modulation on Chelt than that of Clarendon. The q in Clarendon is curvier than that of the q in Chelt. It just kinda juts out there with a little curve.

Time for a little Comparison

So I accidently submitted it before I actually typed anything. So here it is... The Comparison!

Goudy and Universe

Goudy is a serif verses Universe being a san serif. Universe's set width is narrower compared to Goudy (is narrower a word?) The modulation of Goudy varies while the modulation of Universe is the same. The serifs of Goudy also have a dip in them. Goudy's lower case g has an ear unlike Universe.

Baskerville and BauerBodoni Comparison

First of all, the set width of Baskerville is wider than that of BauerBodoni. The serifs of BB are straight while serifs of the Baskerville tend to have a curve to them. The ear on the g in BauerBodoni has a ball on the end verses Baskerville which doesn't. The tail of the q in Baskerville is more fluid verses BauerBodoni which is more linear. The modulation for both of the types are about the same
